Pip's Pasty is the newest bakery kid on the block in Gunnedah and only a week into opening, it's already on the radar for lovers of sourdough and pastry in North West NSW.
The bakery has been a pipedream for Gunnedah local Pippy Ewing since she fell in love with making sourdough almost a decade ago when her sister gifted her a sourdough starter. Initially thinking it was really odd (we all know sourdough mothers and scobys look like something from the ocean's depths) she then started experimenting and sharing with friends which eventually led to running online classes and working for a sourdough baker.
She got hooked on dough (sorry-pun....) and loves making the things she loves to eat like cinnamon scrolls and danishes with seasonal fillings. Laminating dough for croissants is a true labour of love - taking three days but with such delicious results.
Now that the bakery is up and running, Pip is possibly relieved that a random girl she barely knows (maybe that was me...) is no longer messaging her asking if she'll open a bakery every time she posted some delectable looking goods on insta.
Initially trading on Thursdays from 7:30am - 12:00 noon, there are plans to expand opening hours into the future, which judging from the queues of baked good pilgrims on opening Thursday, will excite.
There are a range of breads, pastries and treats available. Croissants (plain, almond or ham and cheese), cinnamon morning buns and white sourdough all sold out early. From this week on, you're able to order online to avoid missing out, with orders needing to be placed by midnight Tuesday for pickup Thursday.
Hot tip: The ham and cheese croissants were a hit in our household - we bought three and the third had to be divided among the whole fam as we were all unwilling to give up the last savoury morsels.
Pip's Pastry is located on the corner of Rosemary and Barber Streets in the old WB Meats Butcher shop- which is now tastefully renovated featuring wide servery windows and a chic Italian carrara marble work bench. Coffee is also available if you're in need of a morning brew.
Pippy has plans to expand in all sorts of exciting avenues- think classes and guest chef appearances- so watch this space- but most importantly head down on Thursday and treat yourself to some beautiful baked goods.
